Welcome to Rett Consulting!
I solve hard scientific, computational, and materials science problems and develop new technologies related to optical systems and system design.
I have over 10 years experience in optical systems design and manufacture, optics fabrication, and thin film ion beam sputtered interference film design and deposition. I have spent countless hours investigating materials via scanning electron microscopy including focused ion beam milling and deposition, doing elemental analysis with electron dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and I have done collaborative research with transmission electron microscopes. I also have hundreds of hours of experience developing novel optical products via reactive ion etching process development, tuning, and physical system modification.
I am an active member in the scientific community regarding laser damage of optical components, and I have numerous published works through the SPIE Laser Damage Symposium.
I am fluent in C# .NET, LINQ, ASP, SQL, Matlab, OpenCV / EMGU CV, C++ and many other web and scientific programming technologies. I use SolidWorks and other CAD software regularly. I also have experience with a number of closed and open source packages for thermo-mechanical finite element modeling, finite difference time domain (FDTD) simulations, and magnetoelectrodynamic field modeling. In regards to optical system design I use Fred and Zemax for sequential and non-sequential optical system design and tolerancing.
I regularly integrate various hardware, sensors, motion control, data acquisition, and data analysis into custom robotics systems, such as automated laser damage test systems, custom spatially-resolved small spot size spectrophotometer systems, real-time fiber coupling imaging, alignment, and optimization utilizing adaptive optics (as an example for a fiber to free-space laser light point to point data communications link capable of 10 kilometer, 2Gbit/s data transmission).
I have extensive experience with data engineering, custom software solutions, network security auditing and analysis, and more. I also enjoy solving various analog and digital electrical engineering and mechanical engineering problems.
Currently, I work in the Research and Development group at Research Electro-Optics, Incorporated: http://www.reoinc.com
As of 2019 REO is now a part of Excelitas Technologies Corporation: http://www.excelitas.com
